Farrah Fawcett
Farrah

Fawcett began dating Lee Majors in
the late 1960s. She was married to Majors
from 1973 to 1982, although the couple separated in 1979. They had no children.
Throughout her marriage (and despite the separation) she used the name Farrah Fawcett-Majors in her screen
credits.
Larry King said of the Fawcett
phenomenon:
“TV had much
more impact back in the '70s than it does today. Charlie's Angels got huge numbers every week – nothing really
dominates the television landscape like that today… She was a major TV star
when the medium was clearly dominant.”
Playboy founder Hugh Hefner said:
"Farrah was one of the iconic
beauties of our time. Her girl-next-door charm combined with stunning looks
made her a star on film, TV, and the printed page."
Kate Jackson said of her former castmate:
“She was a
selfless person who loved her family and friends with all her heart, and what a
big heart it was. Farrah showed
immense courage and grace throughout her illness and was an inspiration to
those around her... I well remember her kindness, her cutting dry wit and, of course, her
beautiful smile...when you think of Farrah,
remember her smiling because that is exactly how she wanted to be remembered:
smiling.”

Farrah Fawcett interview – 1979
The reporter:
“… you sided
career differences…”
“Is there any
hope for reconciliation?”
“Had you seen
the separation coming …?”
“… are you going
to be able to cope with it?”
Farrah:
to all the questions
—I know it´s
difficult for you and please appreciate that sometimes it isn´t easy for us
either but if you can put yourself in my position maybe you´ll understand that
I have to ask you about this. You have sided
or at least the story has sided career differences. What does that mean really?
—Well, I hope
you understand my position. It´s just too new. I can´t really talk about it. I
mean the whole, you know, as a woman and as somebody going through a difficult
situation right now I prefer not to talk about it.
—Is there any
hope for reconciliation?
—Oh, yes.
—Had you seen
the separation coming for some time?
—I really don´t
want to discuss it
—And that´s it.
—Yes. Well, you
know. I care very much for Lee and he cares very much for me and because we
value what we had together we´ve never really discussed anything. I mean, that
is our private life. You know. So I don´t intend to start doing it now
—You said it´s a
difficult thing and I appreciate that. I´m married too and I can well
appreciate what you´re going through. But are you going to be able to cope with
it? Or are you at a stage…
—If people
continue to ask me about it, after I´ve asked them that I don´t want to talk
about it, no. Because it´s difficult. So, can we go on and talk about the film?
—We can. And
thank you for at least giving me that much.
Vocabulario
dry wit: Deadpan or dry wit humour is the
deliberate display of a lack of or no emotion, commonly as a form of comedic
delivery to contrast with the ridiculousness of the subject matter. The
delivery is meant to be blunt, ironic, laconic, or apparently unintentional.
Dry humor is often confused with highbrow
or egghead humor, because the humor in dry
humor does not exist in the words or delivery. Instead, the listener must
look for humor in the contradiction between words, delivery and context.
Failure to include the context or to identify the contradiction results in the
listener finding the dry humor
unfunny.
sided: proposed, justified, defended.
