Hugh Hefner
Hugh

The first issue

Hefner extended the Playboy brand
into a world network of Playboy Clubs.
He also resided in luxury mansions where Playboy
"playmates" shared his wild partying life, fueling keen media
interest. He was an advocate of "sexual liberation" and "freedom
of expression", and he was a political activist in the Democratic Party and for the causes of First Amendment rights, animal rescue, and the restoration of the
Hollywood Sign.
Hugh Hefner discusses sexuality in 1967
In this
interview from Sept. 10, 1967, Playboy
founder Hugh Hefner speaks about
sexual repression, premarital sex and sexual freedom.
By 1967 Hugh Hefner had become synonymous with
the name of his magazine – a celebrity playboy.
In this
interview with Charles Templeton, Hefner
talks about sexual repression, premarital sex, sexual freedom and the image that
Playboy magazine was projecting.
—Are you for pre-marital
sex?
—… I´m for pre-marital
sex but I don´t say that sex can cure every sexual problem. Sex is one area we
assume in society that is going to work out without any real prior experience…
—Your magazine stimulates
post marital sex?
—… I don´t think
my magazine prompts sex out of marriage. What movies, ads or magazines do is to
give certain direction to sex life…
—Certainly you
don´t believe sex should be expressed without any restraint?
—… what kind of
sex Playboy emphasizes? Primarily heterosexual, healthy, associating sex with
beauty, with humor…
—If you don´t
repress your desires you have all kinds of impropriety running out. I´m not
talking about the repression of all normal desires.
—I want to make
a distinction between suppression and repression as an unconscious thing that
people do themselves out of which comes certain kinds of emotional instability…
it is certainly necessary in a society to suppress certain behavior that maybe
harmful to its members (suppress rape or incest desires)…
—I think live
finds enjoyment in the road of duty and when we are serving God and when our
purpose in life is to glorify God and if the person goes out to find pleasure
in sensual living I think he´s going to miss pleasure… and I think we see the
emptiness today where young people are engaged in sex. There´s an emptiness.
They´re sick of it.
—… Playboy
mansion is an unreal world, in a sense…
—… the girls in
the magazine are an idealization (they are the most beautiful girls, not your
next door neighbor)… (Hugh Hefner)
—… I don´t want
to talk about Hefner because I don´t know him personally but I could say that a
man that does what he does is a very miserable person… Billy Graham, televangelist)
Para
saber
Billy Graham regarded homosexuality
as a sin, and in 1974 described it as "a sinister form of
perversion". In 1993 he said that he thought AIDS might be a "judgment" from God, but two weeks later
he retracted the remark, saying, "I don't believe that, and I don't know
why I said it."
In 1970, Graham stated that feminism was
"an echo of our overall philosophy of permissiveness" and that
women did not want to be "competitive juggernauts
pitted against male
chauvinists". He further stated that the role of wife, mother, and
homemaker was the destiny of "real womanhood" according to the
Judeo-Christian ethic.
