Camino a Mónaco

Grace Kelly

The early days of television were a time when many hour-long anthology drama series received critical acclaim…

After embarking on an acting career in 1950 when she was 20, Kelly appeared in New York City theatrical productions and more than 40 episodes of live drama productions broadcast during the early 1950s Golden Age of Television. From 1952 to 1956 she starred in several critically and commercially successful films, usually opposite male romantic leads 25 to 30 years older than her. In October 1953, she gained stardom from her performance in director John Ford's African-filmed adventure-romance Mogambo, starring Clark Gable and Ava Gardner, which won her a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 1954 she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her deglamorized performance in the drama The Country Girl with Bing Crosby. Other noteworthy films in which she starred include the western High Noon (1952), with Gary Cooper; the romance-comedy musical High Society (1956), with Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra; and three Alfred Hitchcock suspense thrillers in rapid succession: Dial M for Murder (1954), with Ray Milland; Rear Window (1954), with James Stewart; and To Catch a Thief (1955), with Cary Grant.

Golden Age of Television
The first Golden Age of Television is the era of live television production in the United States, roughly from the late 1940s through the late 1950s. "The Golden Age opened with Kraft Television Theatre on May 7, 1947, and ended with the last live show in the Playhouse 90 series in 1957;"  the Golden Age is universally recognized to have ended by 1960, as the television audience and programming had shifted to less critically acclaimed fare, almost all of it taped or filmed.
By the early 1960s, about 90% of American households had a television set, and the roles of television and radio (which was largely saved from obsolescence by the invention of the far more portable transistor radio in the 1950s and the concurrent rise of higher-fidelity FM radio) had changed, so that radio was primarily a medium for music, and scripted programming became wholly the domain of television.
The early days of television were a time when many hour-long anthology drama series received critical acclaim. Examples include Kraft Television Theatre (debuted May 7, 1947), The Chevrolet Tele-Theatre (debuted September 27, 1948), Television Playhouse (debuted December 4, 1947), The Philco Television Playhouse (debuted October 3, 1948), Westinghouse Studio One (debuted November 7, 1948), and Your Show Time (debuted January 21, 1949).

Grace Kelly Story (1956)
Grace se despide – viaja a Europa en el Constitution – el principado de Mónaco – un resumen de su vida

A storybook romance near its happy ending as Grace Kelly boards the liner Constitution for her wedding in Monaco. The rest of the Kelly family is also Monaco bound, sailing to see their grace become the bride of Prince Rainer III. More than 300 reporters, photographers and newsreel cameramen all but engulfed Miss Kelly in the wildest and noisiest farewell scramble ever accorded to a departing celebrity.
While all around her nerves are frayed and tempers grow short Miss Kelly remains as cool and poised as a princess.

—As I said before just getting married is a very big step for any girl and I have a great many feelings about that and it’s a very exciting thing and I’m very, very happy. Of course I’m a little sad to be leaving home but I hope to be back quite often.

The stage is set for the year´s biggest wedding in the world´s smallest state.
Monaco is crowned with the majesty of the maritime Alps. A country in miniature with a national anthem, a handsome young ruler, Prince Rainer, and a brightly uniformed army of 69 officers and men. A fabled little land far from the Philadelphia home of Grace Kelly, destined one day to be Princess of Monaco. In 1949 making her first motion pictures appearance as a Warner… news fashion model Grace Kelly could little dream of becoming the most titled woman in Europe. Barely 19 her thoughts were centered on her career, a determined young model with a purpose at the very start of her climb to success and stardom.
Stars are not made by movie magic and so Grace worked long and studied hard, learning, remembering, improving. For Grace Kelly 1949 would be an unforgettable year. Prince Rainer would remember it too for it marked his accession to Europe´s oldest throne.
Planing to Paris for a fashion story Grace would be with an easy distance of Monaco but the pretty commoner was not yet to meet her prince charming.
She was more than a model now. She was an actress who could play a scene and play it well.
Like every girl she wanted her make-believe ring would become real. A diamond that would fit nowhere but on the third finger of her left hand. And perhaps Bermuda would be her own honeymoon...
Hollywood still lay ahead but Grace poised and self-assured was almost ready…
Did she know of Monaco? Probably. Has she heard of Rainier? Possibly. Could she imagine living in a 200 room palace with a staff of 100 servants? Hardly…
