Para saber
Buddy Ebsen was an American actor and dancer whose career spanned seven decades. His most famous role was as Jed Clampett in the CBS television sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies (1962–1971); afterwards he starred as the title character in the television detective drama Barnaby Jones (1973–1980).
Originally a dancer, Ebsen began his career in Broadway Melody of 1936. He also appeared as a dancer with child star Shirley Temple in Captain January (1936). Ebsen was the original choice for the role of the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, but fell ill due to the aluminum dust in his makeup and was forced to drop out. He appeared with Maureen O'Hara in They Met in Argentina (1941) and June Havoc in Sing Your Worries Away (1942). In Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), he portrayed Doc Golightly, the much older husband of Audrey Hepburn's character. Before his starring role in The Beverly Hillbillies, Ebsen had a successful television career, the highlight of which was his role as Davy Crockett's sidekick, George Russell, in Walt Disney's Davy Crockett miniseries (1953–54).

Max Baer Jr. recuerda la audición para “Los Beverlyhills Ricos” -  almorzar con Irene Ryan – el recuerdo de su papá, campeón mundial de los pesados, y su consejo de no entrar al boxeo

—How did you get the role of Jethro?
—They were testing everybody. The only person that was assigned for the show was Buddy Ebsen. Irene and I were not really desired. And we were testing that morning, they wanted somebody else and we stayed there all day and Irene took me to lunch. I was on unemployment insurance on those days, $55 dollars a week. She took me to lunch and we had a couple of martinis and came back… I went to do the scene with Buddy and needless to say that I was a little queasy and I bumped into the door jamb as I was going into the cabin. And I basically turned and said “excuse me.” In other words my attitude was if somebody came in and said granny got hit by a car, Jethro would say “granny just hit my car.” I mean he was like out there someplace and sometimes I wonder if he ever came back.
—If you´re walking through the airport, people would come up to you and call you Jethro?
—Oh, absolutely. It´s kind of happened to me recently. I had a moustache for the last 22 years but in doing the show for CBS that I think is on the 24, on Monday, they asked me if I could shave my moustache and I said “sure”. I like the idea for the show and so I did it.
—Your dad was the heavyweight champion of the world.
—He was the 13 heavyweight champion in the world.
— And when I met you backstage and shook my hands with you I realized you could have hurt a couple of people yourself. Tell me a story about your wonderful dad and the influence that he had on you.
—My father and I were very close… He used to tell me “stay out of boxing. Remember what the bible says “It´s far better to give than to receive.””
—You were 21 when he passed away?
—I was just 21. I just graduated from the Universtiy of Santa Clara and was in the military down at Gunnar Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama….
