Michael Landon, verdadero nombre Eugene Maurice Orowitz, nació en 1936 y murió en 1991 (es decir que tenía 55 años al momento de su fallecimiento). Es conocido por sus papeles como Little Joe Cartwright en Bonanza (1959–1973), Charles Ingalls en Little House on the Prairie (1974–1983) y Jonathan Smith en Highway to Heaven (1984–1989). Michael: I certainly like the way you phrase that. Would you like to stay for dinner?

—Cindy Landon, who would be his widow in less than three months, told us later the laughter was pure Landon.

—He was laughing and making jokes up until the last minute. There was never self-pity for himself. There was never anger. He was always up.

Michael: I think every moment just gets a little more important after something like this. The things that you probably wouldn´t notice become important.

—As Michael ended the press conference and walked away this man with terminal cancer could be seen off to the side playing with his dog.

Later standing by his pool in Malibu he was joking with photographers. That day Michael showed an uplifting spirit that Entertainment Tonight had been witnessing for years.

Highway to Heaven is the name of Michael Landon´s new series due this fall. Will it be a hit or a miss? Michael´s philosophical. We visited Michael often as he directed from behind the camera. Landon segued from 14 years on Bonanza, to eight seasons on Little House on the Prairie and five seasons on Highway to Heaven. With his youngest son Sean, Bonanza was the big hit.

Michael: I think it was on cable, at about 6, 30 in the morning. He liked to sit there on my lap and just looked back and made sure it´s the same guy.

Landon was married 3 times and had 9 children. His private life was often fodder for the tabloids.

Michael: I was accused in one of the magazines of saying dirty things to a woman giving me a facial and lifting my towel and exposing myself. Oh, yeah. That irritated me.

But anger at the tabloids never affected his relation with ET and during many of our interviews he was often quite the jokester.

Michael: I´m gonna lean right this way. I´m gonna look a lot younger next to the radio.
