Aunque mucho de lo que se dijo de él es mentira la vida de Tom Mix sí fue una continua aventura. En el video de abajo se

Rough Riders
He grew up in
nearby DuBois, Pennsylvania, where his father, a stable master for a wealthy
lumber merchant, taught him to ride and love horses.
In April 1898,
during the Spanish–American War, he enlisted in the Army under the name Thomas E. (Edwin) Mix. His unit never
went overseas, and Mix later failed
to return for duty after an extended furlough (absenteeism,
break) when he married Grace I. Allin on July 18, 1902. Mix was listed as AWOL
on November 4, 1902, but was never court-martialed nor apparently even
discharged.
In 1905, Mix rode in President Theodore Roosevelt's inaugural parade with a group of 50
horsemen led by Seth Bullock, which
included several former Rough Riders.
Years later, Hollywood publicists would muddle this event to imply that Mix had been a Rough Rider himself.
Mix
went to Oklahoma and lived in Guthrie, working as a bartender and other odd
jobs. He was briefly sheriff of Dewey, Oklahoma, in 1911 eventually finding
employment at the Miller Brothers 101 Ranch, one of the largest ranching
businesses in the United States, covering 101,000 acres (41,000 ha), hence its
name. The ranch had its own touring Wild West show in which Mix appeared. He stood out as a skilled
horseman and expert shot, winning national riding and roping contests at
Prescott, Arizona, in 1909, and Canon City, Colorado, in 1910.
Mix
began his film career as a supporting cast member with the Selig Polyscope Company. His first appearance was in a short film,
The Cowboy Millionaire, released on October 21, 1909. Mix
performed in more than 100 films for Selig,
many of which were filmed in Las Vegas,
New Mexico.

Mix
went on to make more than 160 cowboy films throughout the 1920s. These featured
action-oriented scripts contrasted with the documentary style of his work with Selig. Heroes and villains were sharply
defined and a clean-cut cowboy always saved the day. Millions of American
children grew up watching his films on Saturday afternoons. His intelligent and
handsome horse Tony also became a
celebrity. Mix did his own stunts and
was frequently injured.
Mix's salary at Fox reached $7,500 a week. His performances were noted for
their realism and for screen-friendly action stunts and horseback riding,
attention-grabbing cowboy costumes, and showmanship.
On October 12,
1940, after visiting Pima County Sheriff Ed Echols in Tucson, Arizona, Mix headed north toward Phoenix on U.S.
Highway 80 (now Arizona State Route 79), driving his 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton. About eighteen miles south of Florence, Mix came upon construction barriers at a
bridge washed away by a flash flood. Unable to stop in time, his car swerved
twice, then overturned in a gully. A large aluminum suitcase containing money,
traveler's checks, and jewels, situated on the package shelf behind his head,
hurtled forward and struck him, breaking his neck. He was 60 years old.

Thomas Edwin "Tom"
Mix (born Thomas Hezikiah Mix; January 6, 1880 -- October 12, 1940) was an
American film actor and the star of many early Western movies. He made a
reported 336 films between 1910 and 1935
Por 20 años, se lo ve aquí con su caballo Tony, su
caballo maravilla, Tom trajo entretenimiento e inspiración al joven EEUU. Pocas
estrellas de cine han alcanzado una popularidad tan grande. Pocos han sido tan
llorados universalmente cuando la muerte terminó su carrera. Él fue más que un
actor. Fue también amigo y consejero de cada muchacho que vio sus películas o
escuchó sus programas de radio. Siempre enseñó un código de conducta basado en
el coraje, la honestidad y el juego limpio.
La vida de Tom Mix, se lo ve aquí con su esposa
Victoria Forde, fue caracterizada con aventuras tan excitantes como cualquiera
de esos personajes ficticios que representó. Durante la campaña cubana en la
guerra española-americana sirvió como scout del coronel Theodore Roosevelt. Severamente
herido fue trasladado a Filipinas donde participó en la campaña de Luzon. Estuvo
presente en el cerco de Pekín durante la rebelión Boxer y fue testigo de las
últimas escaramuzas en la Guerra de los Boers en Sud África.
Retornando a EEUU se convirtió en cowboy en Texas y
Oklahoma y en oficial de la paz. Fue
sheriff de Montgomery County, Kansas, Washington County, Oklahoma and … County,
Colorado. Fue Marshall en Montana, New México y Arizona. Y como Texas Ranger
fue herido dos veces por forajidos.
En 1909 Mix hizo su debut en el entretenimiento con
el famoso Wild West Show de los hermanos Miller y entre temporadas aceptó un
contrato ofrecido por el coronel Zelig, el productor de películas pionero, para
protagonizar en una serie de películas del oeste. Un contrato que tiró por la
borda para unirse a los rebeldes de Madero en la revolución mejicana de 1910. Esa
aventura fue poco beneficiosa al ver a Tom Kennedy cobrando en esta escena. Tom
Mix se quedó en México lo suficiente como para ver la captura de Juárez y
retornó a EEUU con un tremendo éxito.
En dos años ya era un ídolo de la pantalla. A propósito
la joven en sus brazos en su hija, Tomasina. Y el líder de la orquesta, con el
que está bromeando, es su viejo amigo Ted Lewis. Nadie que hubiera conocido a
Tom hubiera tomado esta broma seriamente. Tom tenía muchas habilidades pero no
la de la música.
De los primeros días de Hollywood, se lo ve aquí con
Sally… Hasta el momento de su muerte Tom Mix fue querido por todos los que lo
conocieron. Hoy sus huellas, junto a las de Tony, ocupan un lugar de honor en
el teatro chino Graumont. Para los turistas que visitan Hollywood traen
recuerdos de un entretenedor favorito. Para Hollywood significa el recuerdo de
un buen amigo
