Maiden y su El
número de la bestia, provocó discusiones y denuncias sobre satanismo e invocaciones al demonio. Se
pueden escuchar razones de los dos bandos. Lo cierto es que El número de la bestia presenta este
tipo de letras:

El álbum fue controversial en los Estados Unidos debido a las referencias religiosas.

Reportes de la prensa contaron historias de
fenómenos inexplicables en las sesiones de grabación, como luces que se
prendían y apagaban solas y las grabadoras que se rompían misteriosamente.
Estos hechos tuvieron su clímax cuando Martin
Birch (productor) chocó con un bus que transportaba monjas y se le mostró
una factura por reparaciones que ascendía a… 666 libras.
Al momento de presentarse el álbum Iron Maiden fue acusada de satanista, se
quemaron catálogos de la banda y algunos grupos religiosos rompieron sus discos
con martillos.

No creo en la intención de llevar a Satán a los jóvenes inocentes pero
algunos versos de las canciones dicen:
… la demoníaca cara me trae desesperación…
… el ritual ha empezado, el trabajo del diablo…
… el sacrificio tiene lugar esta noche…

Una cosa es segura: Satán vende. No importa como lo
pongas, las bandas metálicas como Black
Sabbath o Kiss no son las que
están perdiendo con la recesión. En realidad algunos grupos parecen estar siguiendo
el olor del éxito
Primero que nada cuestiono que realmente algunas de
estas bandas tengan realmente un objetivo diabólico. Pienso que ellas marcan
una situación: “los estoy viendo, sé lo que están haciendo”
Creo que hay gente en el mundo del rock que es la
que está en lo oculto y en lo satánico. Pero no importa como lo mires, están
propagando a Satán y creo que esto es devastador para nuestra cultura
