Hitler´s valet

I must say I wouldn´t have a better master…

… he was never interested in astrology…

Heinz Linge died in 1980.

On 24 January 1935, Linge was chosen to be a valet for Hitler.

He stated that his daily routine was to wake Hitler each day at 11.00 am and provide morning newspapers and messages.

Besides accompanying Hitler on all his travels, he was responsible for the accommodations; all the servants, mess orderlies, cooks, caterers and maids were "subordinate" to Linge.

Linge delivered messages to Hitler and escorted people in to meet with him.

Two days before committing suicide on 30 April with Eva Braun, Hitler confided his suicide plan to Linge. He asked Linge to have their bodies wrapped in blankets and taken up to the garden to be cremated.

Several days later, after his identity was revealed, two Soviet officers escorted Linge by train to Moscow where he was thrown into the notorious Lubjanka Prison.

Linge spent ten years in Soviet captivity and was released in 1955.

Interview with Heinz Linge
This is a short interview, from a very old BBC series titled “In Town Tonight” with Adolph Hitler´s personal valet Heinz Linge, who was the last person to see Hitler alive and the first person to see his dead body. This interview happened in 1965.

Just arrived to England and In Town Tonight studio now is the man who was with Hitler to the end, 42-year-old Heinz Linge.

—You were with Hitler when he died, weren´t you, Mr. Linge?
—I was the last who said goodbye to him and the first to see the body. He and Eva Braun died alone.
—Didn´t he do any last order?
—Yes, to destroy his personal possessions and burn his body.
—Did you carry them out?
—Yes, I used petrol but there was a sort of flash that they were not completely burned.
—Where do you think Hitler´s body is now?
—Buried in parts of the country. The Russians have never found Hitler´s body. I know that because they crashed me repeatedly about it.
—Do you think he is still there?
—Yes, buried in a common grave.
—I know that Goebbels died there in Berlin too. Why didn´t Goering?
—I think Goering was hanging on to life as long as possible.
—What is your point of view? Was Hitler a good man to work for?
—I must say I wouldn´t have a better master.
—Were you with him all the time?
—I was with him always and when he went out I used to drive in the same car with him. Wearing civilian clothes if he had them or in uniform if he was in uniform.
—Did you ever have any time off?
—Not much. Perhaps 3 or 4 weeks in the 10 years I was with him.
—And how did you spend?
—With my wife and family.
Hitler was really interested in astrology?
—No. When he was in power, never.
—There is one story which is apparently incorrect. What about those rages of his?
—He used to get in rages but they were not uncontrolled rages. He never beat the carpet.
—Did he have doubles?
—No, I haven´t seen anyone who looked like him.
—Why didn´t Hitler invade England?
—There are many reasons but I think he thought England would surrender.
—Now that you gear yourself. Is there anything that you want to do?
—I had done it. I went to stand on the cliffs of Dover where I know Hitler would have like to stand.
—What are your plans now?
—At the present time I am writing my story which is now being published by the news of the world. Later I don´t know what I would do…
