Salta empobrecida

Y esperando

Our Salta, dear province, does not have a brilliant future, I am afraid. It is not that we cannot produce, that we lack capable people to carry the necessary growth. The reason is that we have had the worst people in government and politics. People who did not want Argentina, and Salta, to surpass, overcome and compete around the world. They did not join forces, the left and the right, to establish a period of truce between party struggles, and help the economy and face the uncertainty of the future. They made the state an elephant so big that it is impossible to maintain. They did not attract real investment apart from vultures that wanted easy money. Our politicians were so corrupt that they would make “Ladrón sin destino” looked like a paled nun.

Who would want to come and bring their money if our own people took their money to Bahamas?
Who would want to come to Argentina if they knew they had to invest in briberies (“coimas” at all levels) first to establish a company or factory?
Who would want to come with fresh money if they feared a change in government would mean a change in legislation and possibly the forfeiting of the company?
Who would want to come to invest in factories, salaries and social security when the dollar and the Lebacs are so attractive and easy to make money with?
Who would want to come to put the money in a country where the judiciary system seems to lack independence?
Who would want to come to risk his investment where all the corrupted officials, in the present and the past, are free even when they had confirmed sentences (Hello, Carlos Saul Menem)?

I wrote this article, in Spanish, called “Salta Empobrecida y Esperando” based on these points:
Mauricio Macri and Cristina Kirchner are two sides of the same coin.
Small entrepreneurs are trying to escape economic crisis selling empanadas.
Low salaries in the public sector as opposed to politicians’ salaries in the premium side.
Constant rises in the levying of taxes and services.
Inflation rates endlessly increasing and constraining the economy.
Corruption at all levels that makes any policy almost impossible to implement.
Off shore savings from Argentine rich people, and government officials, who do not trust their own government.

It is a shame the things we are suffering because everybody says we have a great country, with huge resources, prepared people and a blessed land. A teacher of mine, from South Africa, once told me that if you threw a seed here it would grow almost unattended. That is the level of potential we have.
I do not want to see people making empanadas to sell outside their houses, because there are no jobs to recur to. I do not want to see poor children without shoes to wear at school. I do not want to contemplate ollas populares to feed the poor and helpless.
I also mentioned in my article that there is a company, here in Salta, using engineers, Saltenian engineers, making software to sell to American and European companies. A system that should be copied at all levels. That is what I want.
The stuff is there. The intelligence is ready to erupt. We just need the government helping these entrepreneurs to pave the way to development.

Look at the headlines from an Argentine newspaper:
Las coimas
Carlos Wagner involucró a Cristina

Regards. Jorge
